ジルコンとは
ジルコンは、ケイ酸ジルコニウムからなる天然鉱物で、キュービックジルコニアとは別の宝石です。高い屈折率と分散による強い輝きが特徴で、青、赤、黄、褐色、緑などの色があります。青色や無色の多くは加熱処理によって得られ、結晶中の微量元素は地質年代の研究にも利用されます。
